How to Thaw Frozen Pipes

1/8/2019 (Permalink)

Exterior Wall frozen pipe

When you turn on a spigot and little to no water comes out, your pipe may be frozen.  Keeping the spigot open while the pipe is thawing will help the water run through it.  Running water through the pipe will help melt the ice too, only if the pipe has not erupted.  Carefully apply heat to the pipe section that has been affected with a hair dryer or wrap the affected pipe in a hot soaked towel.  Never use a blowtorch or an open flame device. Once the pipe is thawed your water should flow normally.  Make sure all you pipes within the home are monitored too.  A licensed plumber to check to make sure there are no cracks is always a good safety measure to take too.
